Trelleborg’s Unique Museums
Discover Trelleborg’s rich history
A place where people have lived and worked for thousands of years has a rich and varied history. Our museums offer a journey through time that sparks the imagination. You will find everything from graves that testify to life on the south coast 7000 years BC, to the story of Viking-age Trelleborg, and niche museums that illustrate in various ways how the modern town emerged thanks to shipping, freight, and skilled craftsmen. Here, countless experiences await the curious. Some of the museums require advance booking, but take your time – we promise it’s worth it!
Trelleborgen
In 1988, traces of a Viking-age ring fort were discovered at Trelleborg’s highest point. Today, a quarter of the fort has been reconstructed on its original site and is surrounded by a park with a Viking farm, medieval houses, and a museum with an exhibition, shop, and Odin café.
Trelleborg's museum
At Trelleborg’s Museum, visitors are offered an exciting and educational experience with a delightful mix of the town’s history, various temporary exhibitions, art, and handicrafts. You can enjoy a relaxing time in the small cinema where films are shown continuously. There is also a café and a museum shop.
Axel Ebbes konsthall
Axel Ebbe is perhaps most famous for his unforgettable sculptures. The monumental Sea Serpent in the main square and the graceful Irrblosset in the City Park are dearly loved by most residents of Trelleborg and have become natural meeting places in the town. The art gallery is currently closed for renovation.
Cultural Collection
Trelleborg’s museum collections contain approximately 70,000 objects and around 120,000 photographs. The collections are a treasure trove of cultural history, archaeology, and art. Groups of up to 20 people can book a tour of the collections. Some public tours are also available.
Beatles Exhibition
In Gislöv, far from Liverpool, there is a place dedicated to the four long-haired lads who revolutionised popular music. This private collection, which includes hundreds of records and 500-600 films, would satisfy even the most avid Beatles fanatics.
Maritime museum
Sweden’s southernmost maritime museum displays the maritime history within Trelleborg Municipality, both past and present. The museum has various sections dedicated to fishing, small boat engines, nautical instruments, stevedoring, shipping, forwarding, and ferry traffic.
Stenbäck Aircraft Museum
Civil and military airplanes, jet and piston engines, instruments, ground equipment, aircraft models, flight simulators, and former air traffic control systems from Sturup. Groups are advised to book in advance.
Discover the Rich History and Diverse Museums
Uniform Collection
Sweden’s new Uniform Museum showcases civilian and military uniforms from 1850 onwards. This year, a new exhibition is being presented – “The Police Through the Ages”, featuring complete uniforms from the entire profession. Here, you’ll also find uniforms from some of our most beloved movies and TV series, such as Clark, Svensson-Svensson, Rederiet, and Sällskapsresan, along with a museum shop and a retro café.
Borgquistska hattmuseet
Borgquist’s, located in the heart of Trelleborg, is unique. Nowhere else in Sweden is there a hat museum housed in such meticulously restored old factory premises that it feels as if the seamstresses have just left their sewing machines for a coffee break. It is the Old Trelleborg Association that runs the museum and allows you to peek into the world of hat, fur, and cap manufacturing.
