SPRING BREAK

Recharge your batteries in the villages along Skåne's south coast

Along Skåne’s southern coast lies Söderslätt, an open, tranquil landscape where the sky is vast and life moves at a slower pace. In the municipality of Trelleborg, the traditional Skåne village lives on, with half-timbered houses, winding village streets, churches dating back to the Middle Ages, and traces of generations who have lived off the fertile soil. There are a total of 61 villages here, each with its own unique character.

It's always the right season here!

Spring is a particularly lovely time to explore the villages. When the fields are sprouting and the sea shimmers in shades of gray and blue, there’s plenty of time for leisurely walks, local flavors, small shops, and encounters that take their time. It’s easy to unwind and recharge here.

Västa Virestad, a rural village setting in Söderslätt

Äspö: History, Creativity, and Church Art

Äspö takes its name from an aspen forest and was struck by a fire in the 19th century. Despite this, several original buildings have been preserved. The village church, dating back to the 13th century, features frescoes from the 16th century. Äspö is home to several small attractions: Ludvigslunds Skafferi, Äspö Retrotorp, Äspögården, Magical Homes and Gardens and Swaffer, where jewelry making, gifts, and homemade baked goods come together. Together, they create a creative and personal village atmosphere.

Those traveling on foot can follow the Skåneleden through the town of Trelleborg and along the coast, or hike between Trelleborg and Fru Alstad. This stretch is part of the pilgrimage route between Santiago de Compostela and Nidaros and is called the Way of Mary, a path that invites reflection, especially during the quieter months of the year.
