Albäcks Forest

The area boasts a rich variety of birdlife, with its coastal environment, ponds, and the Albäcksån River, all of which promote biodiversity. Here, visitors can easily experience and observe birds up close.

Nature around Smygehuk

Smygehuk

About 400 meters west of the Smygehuk Lighthouse is one of Sweden’s best spots for watching migratory birds. In the spring, eiders fly in over the land, while in the fall they head in the opposite direction. Cranes also pass through here.

Stavstensudde

Stavstensudde is an important habitat for waders and bald eagles. Both the greater sand plover and the little tern nest here. The little tern has been designated as Trelleborg’s municipal bird by SKOF.

Börringe Food

On the border with Svedala lies a 20-hectare wetland, created as part of the Tullstorpsån restoration project. The area attracts many birds, especially birds of prey, and is a popular spot for birdwatchers.

Birdwatching Tips

Would you like to see a heron or a lightning-fast kingfisher? Keep an eye out for Trelleborg’s municipal ornithologist, Lars Sundlöf—a tall gentleman with a Mönsterås accent and a pair of Swarovski binoculars around his neck. You’ll often find him in Albäck on sunny days!
Lars Sundlöf’s best tips:

  • The northeastern part of the municipality: Lakes such as Havgårdssjön, Börringesjön, Börringe Mad, Grönalund, and Näsbyholmssjön are great for birds of prey; there, you can see white-tailed eagles, red kites, and occasionally golden eagles.
  • The Tullstorpsån and Ståstorpsån Rivers: Great for birdwatching.
  • Kullatorp and Gabeljung: Great for birdwatching and places to explore.
  • Maglarp Sand Pit: A great place to see barn swallows.

Maglarp Sand Pit

The former sand quarry in Maglarp is now a nature reserve with a sandy environment that supports solitary bees. The sandy slope is also an important breeding ground for barn swallows.
